ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Clarence M. Peters, 81, of Orange City died Friday, June 18, 1999, at Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services will be at 10 am. Tuesday at American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Clarence Van Heukelom officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Mr. Peters was born on July 16, 1917, at Orange City, the son of Gerrit and Agnes (De Vries) Peters. He was raised at Orange City, where he attended the Christian School and graduated from Northwestern Academy. He also attended the Nettleon Business School in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was then employed at a bank in Sioux Falls. He married Bertha J. Sinkey on June 14, 1940, in Ireton. He served in the United States Navy during World War H. He was a member of the Intelligence Unit in London, England, which planned the D~Day Invasion of Normandy, France. He and his wife made their home in Orange City, where he was employed by Silent Sioux. He then became employed with the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He received a One-Million-Mile Safe Driving Award, and retired in 1980.He was a member of the American Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post for over 50 years. He enjoyed outdoor sports, especially hunting and fishing. He was an Explorer Scouts Post Leader for many years. He was instrumental in building the Scout House in Veterans Park in Orange City, and he led scouting trips to Black Hill, S.D., and to Canada.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheryl Buxamusa, of Newton; a son, Robert Peters, of Lincoln, Neb.; and two grandchildren, David and Amy Cornelder.
