Lois M. Plendl, 84, of Maurice, Iowa died suddenly Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Orange City Hospital following a brief illness. Lois Maxine Lang was born December 1, 1919 on the family farm in Sherman Township, rural Sioux County, Iowa to George and Clara (Werley) Lang. Lois was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Reading Township. She began her education at Sherman #4 country school and later graduated from Maurice High School in 1938. Lois was united in marriage to Edmund Plendl on August 30, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Following their marriage, Lois and Edmund settled on the farm where Lois was born. Along with assisting her husband on the farm, Lois enjoyed tending to her garden and raising chickens. Lois and Ed were blessed with 4 children: Mark, Lee, George, and Ruth. Lois enjoyed gardening, playing the piano for family and friends, playing cards and in her younger years was a 4-H leader She cherished the time spent as "grandma".Lois and Edmund are members of Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars where she was a member of the Martha and Dorcas Circle. She had also served for a number of years on the Calvary Trustee Board. Lois will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Edmund of Maurice; 3 sons and daughters-inlaw, Mark and his wife Ellen of Orange City, Lee and his wife Sharon of Maurice and there two children, Chris and his wife Michelle Plendl and Corey Plend!, and George and his wife Judy of Orange City and their two children, Seth and Lucas Plendi; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Jack Bennett of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and their children Rebecca and Jesse Bennett; 2 great grandchildren, Eric and Katelyn Plendl; and many friends throughout northwest Iowa.Lois was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara (Werley) Lang.
