Herman Oordt
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Herman Oordt, 85, of Orange City, died Friday, January 14, 1994 at the Orange City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the American Reformed Church, Orange City, with the Rev. Stanley Vander Weide officiating. A commital service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday at theVan Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City, followed by burial in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with family present 2-4 p.m., at the funeral home.Mr. Oordt was born Nov. 18, 1908, at Sioux Center, Iowa, son of Weitse and Anne (Vander Haack) Oordt. He married Jennie Lammers Oct. 13, 1936, at Alton, Iowa. They lived in Orange City, where he operated Oordt Implement. He later served as custodian at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, and more recently Operated Herman's Saw Shop. He was a member of the American Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Virg Dykema of Bella Vista, Ark., and Lori and Wally Luhrs of Okobodji, Iowa; a son and his wife, Darwin and Bonnie Oordt of Blue Earth, Minn.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lillian Wolfswinkel and Gertrude Zinn, both of Le Mars, Iowa, Betty Van Veldhuizen of Sibley and Annette "Babe" Den Hartog of Hawarden, IA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Dykema, six brothers and three sisters.
