ALEXANDER "Sam" OLDENKAMP
Mr. Alexander "Sam" Oldenkamp, age 88, of Orange City, passed away Tuesday, November 4, in the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 6, at 10: 00 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City was in charge of arrangements.Alexander, who was known as "Sam" was born April 14, 1909, at Hospers, the son of Harm and Susan (Brink) Oldenkamp. On January 8, 1931, he married Jeanette Vanden Brink at Hospers. They farmed in the Orange City area until 1962, when the couple moved into Orange City. Sam then worked at Kooiker Manufacturing in Hull for three years. In 1965, they became custodians of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, retiring in 1977. In February of 1992, Mr. and Mrs. Oldenkamp became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, in December of 1992, they moved into the Long Term Care Facility. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.Survivors include his wife, Jeanette: a daughter, Gladys, and her husband, Cornelius Korver of Orange City; two sons, Herman Oldenkamp and his wife, Grace of Orange City: and Kenneth Oldenkamp and his wife, Mary of Alton; ten grandchildren ten great-grandchildren and six sisters, Tina (Mrs. Terry) De Raad of George: Geraldine Bouma of Boyden; Susan Westra, Edith Visser and Hermina (Mrs. John) Lode all of Sheldon; and Gertrude Oldenkamp of George. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Lisa Korver; a great-grandchild, Kami Korver; five brothers, William, Hendrick, Henry, John and Howard Oldenkamp; and four sisters, Jennie Oldenkamp, Jennie Van Es, Hermina Oldenkamp and Christina Lode.
