SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Gertrude Nyhof, 88, of Sioux Center died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at the Sioux Center Cornmunity Hospital Nursing Facility. Services will be 10 am. Monday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with family present 2 to 4 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Mrs. Nyhof was born Aug. 11. 1913, in Steen, Minn., the daughter of Geurt and Nellie (Van't Hul) Vande Kieft. She was raised in Ireton, Iowa, where she graduated from the Christian School. She spent many hours on her parents' farm picking corn and milking cows. She married Gerrit Nyhof on Jan. 24, 1934, in Ireton. The couple continued to live in Ireton until 1941, when they moved to Sioux Center. Together they raised their family on a farm outside of town. Gerritt died on Jan. 13, 1980, in Sioux Center. She continued to live on the farm until 1982, when she moved to the New Homestead in Sioux Center. In 1994, she became a resident of the Nursing Facility.She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church. where she was an active participant in the circles. She enjoyed working with her hands whether the activity was quilting, crocheting, baking or tending her vegetable garden.Survivors include eight children and their spouses, Leonard and Myna Nyhof and Gilmer and Gladyce Nyhof, all of Sioux Center, Carol and Mary Harmelink of Alton, Lavonne and Neil Quinn of Arnolds Park, Velda and Abe Flory of Paso Robles, Calif., Marlys and Duane Hansen of Ferndale, Wash., Myra and Den Smit of Alamosa, Colo., and Betty and Merlin De Groot of Sheldon: 23 grandchildren: 29 great-grandchildren: four great-step-grand children: a great-great-step grandchild: and three sisters-in-law. Henrietta Vande Kieft, Johanna Vande Kiel and Wilmina Vollink.She also was preceded in death by her parents: two grandchildren, Arlene Nyhoff and Loren Smit: three brothers. William, Wilbert and John Vande Kieft: and two sisters, Minnie Feenstra and Reka Sinkey.
