Rock Valley - Arie J. Hoogendoorn, 79, of Rock Valley died Sunday, August 20, at a Sioux Falls hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday at the First Reformed Church. The Rev. Roger Voskuil officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Mr. Hoogendoorn was born June 18, 1899, in The Netherlands and came to the United States as a child with his family. He married Maria Lems on April 6, 1933, in Orange City.

They farmed in the Luverne, Minn., area until retiring to Rock Valley in 1965.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Viola) Van Voorst of Rock Valley; his stepfather, B. A. DeWit of Rock Valley; two brothers, Merritt of Rock Valley and Gysbert of Hudsonville, Michigan.

Also a half-brother, John De Wit of Inwood; three half-sisters, Mrs. Peter (Nellie) Berg of Rock Rapids and Mrs. William (Margaret) Iwen and Mrs. Nick (Adriana) Van Beek, both of Rock Valley; two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
