Gertie Mars Van Peursem, 97, died Friday evening at the Heritage House following a brief illness.

Service were held Monday, Jan.4 at 1:30 p.m. in the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton. The Rev. Cecil Martens and Frank Snuttjer officiated. Interment was held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Funeral arrangement were through Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Gertie Baas was born November 17, 1884, in the Netherlands and came to the United States when she was four years old. She Married Lige Mars December 17, 1908 at Carnes Iowa. He preceded her in death May 28, 1972. She married Abe Van Peursem Dec. 27, 1973 at Ireton and he passed away Sep.9,1981. She lived and farmed in the Seney area until 1942 when they moved to Ireton. They lived 30 years in Ireton. Gertie then moved to the Pioneer Home where she lived until entering the Heritage Nursing Home about two years ago. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church most of her life and now is a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City.

Survivors include;three sons, Peter and Jake of Orange City,and Minderd of Paullina; three daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Hofland of Orange City, Mrs.Adrian (Jacoba)Penning of Sheldon and Mrs. Arie (Tena) Kramer of Ireton; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Andy(Louise Mars of Orange City; 46 grandchildren; 126 Great-Grandchildren; and 15 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Andy, and two grandchildren
