Hull - John Oostra, Sr., 86, Hull, died Thursday, Aug. 24 at the Sioux Center hospital nursing wing of a lengthy illness.

Services were at 10:30 A.M., Monday at Hope Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. James Cooper officiated. Burial was in Hope Cemetery under direction of the Kraai Funeral Home.

Mr. Oostra was born March 20, 1892, in The Netherlands. He came to the United States when he was five years old. He married Kate Van Surksum June 5, 1915, in Doon.

Mr. Oostra farmed in the Doon and Rock Valley areas until 1950 when he retired and moved to Hull.

He was a member of Hope Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include the widow; nine sons, Richard of Sioux Center, John Jr. of Hudsonville, Mich., Ralph and Robert, both of Hull, Marinus of Ferndale, Wash., Gerald of Sheldon, Jake and Andrew, both of Rock Valley, and William John of Winneconne, Wis.; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Grooters of Sanborn, Mrs. Gerrit (Ruth) Van Engen of Sioux Center and Mrs. Gerrit (Berdina) Van Maanen of Lakewood, Calif., 47 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren.
