Gerrit Grevengoed, 87, of Hull died Friday, October 2, 1998, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were Monday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with The Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Burial was at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation was Sunday in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Grevengoed was born November 19, 1910, in rural Rock Valley, Iowa, the son of Dick and Carrie (Vande Griend) Grevengoed. He was raised in Rock Valley.

He married Winnie Van Oort at Middleburg, Iowa, on January 4, 1933. They farmed in the Middleburg area until November 1974 when they retired and moved to Hull.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where served as an elder on the consistory, taught catechism classes, and participated in the Men’s Society. He had served on the boards of directors of the Orange City Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull.

He enjoyed woodworking and flowers.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Darlene and Chuck P. Kroese of Hull; three sons and their wives John and Wilma, Howard and Marilyn, and Alvin and Eileen, all of Hull; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jake of Rock Valley, and Henry of Paw-paw, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen DeRuyter, a half-sister, Kate Peters; and three half-brothers, Floris, Herb and Ed Vander Stoep.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Christian School foundation.
