Douglas James Van Beek, 22 months, son of Mr. & Mrs. David Van Beek of Hull, was killed November 19 at his home when he was struck in the head and chest by pieces of metal hurled in his direction when a woodburning stove exploded.

His father was working on the basement stove at the time of the explosion but escaped injury.

Douglas was dead when members of the Hull rescue unit and fire department arrived at the home in response to the emergency call.

Funeral services were held at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 22, with the Rev. James Cooper officiating and burial was in Hope Cemetery at Hull.

Douglas was born January 23, 1973 at Sheldon.

Survivors besides his parents include a sister, Debbi Jo, his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Edward Sohl of Hull, and paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Van Beek of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
