Obituary: Sioux Falls, SD – Doris DeBondt, 69, formerly of Hudson, SD, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at her home in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday at Hudson Lutheran Church. Burial at Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Rev. Lori Marty will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, Hudson until 4 p.m. and then at Hudson Lutheran Church with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.
Doris Schoen was born June 24, 1940 to Floyd and Nellie (Christensen) Schoen in Hudson, SD. Doris was taken in as a young girl by Ralph and Ida Thorpe. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1958. Doris was united in marriage to William "Bill" DeBondt on October 24, 1959 at Hudson Lutheran Church, Hudson, SD. She worked for various employers which include: State Bank of Hudson, Bill’s Bar of Hudson, Bank First in Sioux Falls and McNally’s Irish Pub in Sioux Falls. Bill died June 23, 2006.
Blessed to have shared her life are 2 sons: Wm. S. (Bonnie) DeBondt of Centerville, SD and Tobin S. DeBondt of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 grandchildren: Cody (Sarah Mayer - fiance) and Callie DeBondt; sister, Donna Middle of Nevada, IA; brother, Ralph Thorpe of Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband William DeBondt, her parents, Floyd and Nellie Schoen, brothers: Donald and Floyd Schoen; sisters: Betty Ingebretson and Beverly Kline; parents, Ralph and Ida Thorpe; brothers: Bob, Albert and Dale Thorpe; sisters: Irene "Pep" Mitchell and Marge Coleman.
