Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Willis D. Frank, 93, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, January 26, 1010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery with rites by the American Legion and VFW of Hawarden and the Hawarden Fire Department. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. The family prefers memorials to Hospice of Siouxland.
Willis D. Frank was born June 18, 1916 in Hawarden, Iowa to Jesse and Frances "Dolly" (Marshall) Frank. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1935. On September 28, 1941 he was united in marriage to Agnes Raynie. He proudly served his country during WWII with the US Army, stationed primarily in India.
Willis spent his entire working career with the City of Hawarden, retiring as the Superintendent of Public Works. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Hawarden Fire Department, retiring as Fire Chief. He was a 64 year member of the local American Legion as well as the VFW. He served many years as a trustee in the First Baptist Church. Willis spent many happy hours on the local golf course. Following his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed being "winter Texans" along with many friends. His wife preceded him in death on April 16, 1998.
Left to cherish his memory are 2 daughters, Dianna (Pete) Dekkers and Brenda (Glenn) Frank; a son, Kirk (Pam) Frank; 3 grandchildren, Chris Dekkers, Kari (Brad) Weidenaar, and Sharon Carlson; 4 great-grandchildren, Elliot, Alex, Quinn, and Zoe Weidenaar. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Arlyn Carr; 2 sisters-in-law, Gerdie Raynie and Louise Raynie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 6 sisters, Rosella, Eva, Frances, Viola, Bethel and Gladys in infancy.
