Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Jessie DeBoer, 86, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service 2 pm Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley with visitation one hour before funeral. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Jessie was born February 12, 1923 at Colton, SD, daughter of Jake and Gertrude (Zuiderhof) Tamminga. The family moved near Sioux Center, Iowa where she graduated from high school. She then obtained her teaching certificate at LeMars, IA and taught until she was married. Jessie married Gerrit DeBoer on June 2, 1949 at Sioux Center. Together they lived at Rock Valley where Gerrit was in partnership with his brother owning DeBoer Oil Company and Jessie was active in the Calvin Christian Reformed Church and worked at the Public Library. Jessie and Gerrit moved to Sioux Falls on March 21, 1989. Gerrit died May 10, 1989. Jessie moved to the Valley Manor at Rock Valley on August 1, 2002. She was a devoted mother and homemaker; a loving caregiver to her husband in his illness; loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and enjoyed doing thing for others.
Survivors are her daughter, Glenda (Wes) Engbers of Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren, Tanya (Steve) Brazones and their children Alexander and Emerson of Blaine, MN, Nathan (Karmen) Engbers and children Isaac, Carson, and Landon of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers Bill (Hazel) Tamminga of NC, George (Henrietta) Tamminga of Lombard, IL, Joel Tamminga of Grand Rapids, MI; sisters, Wilma Van Leeuwen of Wichita, KS, Mildred (William) Dekker of Grand Rapids, MI.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerrit; brothers, Albert, Louis, and James Tamminga.
