Obituary: Rock Valley: Judy Graves, 67, of Rock Valley, died surrounded by her family, Saturday, January 30, 2010 due to cancer, at her son’s ranch near Gillette, WY. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Valley. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday with the family present 6-8 pm and a Prayer Service at 7 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Judy Lorraine Hamann was born August 20, 1942 at Rock Valley, daughter of Theodore and Florence (Aurit) Hamann. She graduated from Rock Valley Public High School where she was the school’s first football Homecoming Queen and then attended 2 years at Nettleton Business College at Sioux Falls. She worked for Northwestern Bank at Sioux Falls. Judy married Herman Graves on June 27, 1964 at Rock Valley. Together they lived at Rock Valley where Judy worked for Iowa Public Service 4 years and then she taught piano lessons to many young people for many years, and was also custodian and organist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 38 years. Judy spent time with her children and grandchildren sharing the Big Horn Mountains, snowmobiling, camping, and a special love for a quarter horse named Sonny-D.
Judy is survived by her husband, Herm; son, Keith (Jeanette) Graves of Gillette, WY; daughter, Kerri Horstman of Gillette, WY; 3 grandsons, Kyle (Ashley) Graves, Kyle Timmerman, Jacob Horstman; 2 granddaughters, Kayla Graves and Josie Horstman; brother, Steven Hamann of Witchita, KS; sister, Susan (Jerry) Robinson of Okoboji, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Florence Hamann.
