(obit is rather lengthy, have summarized)
Death of Mrs. Allen. Nothing has cast such a gloom over the entire neighborhood, in a long time as the announcement made last Friday that Mrs. Patrick Allen had died. A day or so prior to her death, she was taken with cramps but the attack was not considered serious. On Friday death came suddenly and unannouced. It is supposed the immediate cause was the bursting of some blood vessel.
Mrs. Margaret Carroll Allen was born at Chesterville Ontario Canada in 1851 and was married at that place on Nov. 17, 1872 to Patrick Allen. Immediately aftet the marriage, Mr.and Mrs. Allen located in East Orange Township, this county, where they have lived for 16 years. A husband and seven children are left to mourn, the youngest child being two years and the oldest sixteen. Funeral was from St. Mary's church.
(from the So. Co. Cemetery Index Margaret Allen bron 1849 died Jan 3, 1890 buried in St. Mary's cemtery in Alton. In Patrick's obituary of Oct 1935, the children are listed as: Michael Allen, Mrs. Theodore Wagner, Will, Mrs. Don Gaffney, Mrs. E. E. Niemeyer, Frank D. Allen, Geroge Allen. Two children died in th 1880 epedemic, John and Mary. Also mentioned in Patrick's obit he had married Margaret Carroll in Canada)
