William J. Van De Hoef

William was the son of Jacob and Gertrude (Langstraat) Van De Hoef. He was raised in the Boyden and Newkirk areas, where he attended school. During World War II, he served in the United States Army.
On May 24, 1945, he married Carol Henson-Kuyper at Newkirk. They farmed near Newkirk. Later, they moved to Sheldon, where they operated Bill’s Warehouse Market. He was also a driver for Van Zee Trucking.
Mr. Van De Hoef was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where he sang in the Men’s Chorus and served as treasurer of the Men’s Brotherhood. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aeries 2297.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and drinking coffee and joking with his friends. He liked working puzzle books and watching game shows on television. He always had time to listen to everybody and had a smile for everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Greeta Jean Van De Hoef of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Arlene Van De Hoef of Louisville, Kentucky; a nephew, Jacob J. Van De Hoef, and his wife, Joan, of Galloway, Ohio; a niece, Judy J. Bloor of Louisville; a great-nephew, Christopher Van De Hoef; a great-niece, Megan Van De Hoef; special friends, Aida "Rootsie" Ruiz and the Arvin Otter family; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Arlan Jay "Bud" Van De Hoef; a brother, the Rev. Cornelius Van De Hoef; and a special friend, Arvin Otter.
