Cornelius was the son of Jacob and Gertrude (Langstraat) Van De Hoef. He graduated from the Newkirk High School.
On June 1, 1950, he married Arlene Van Aalsburg at Montevideo, Minnesota. They farmed at Newkirk for five years and co-owned the Newkirk Store for six years. He also drove school bus during this time. He then graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA., in 1965 and from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, in 1968.
He was an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in America, serving the New Era, Michigan, Reformed Church; The Church of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado; the Lexington, Kentucky, Reformed Church; the Church of the Cross in Sarasota, Florida; the Palm Grove Reformed Church in Holiday, Florida; the Bethel Reformed Church in Bellflower, California; the Church of the Cross in Modesto, California; and the New Life Reformed Church in Artesia, California. In 1966, he retired to Louisville.
"Cornie" was a member of the Rotary Clubs in New Era and Denver and the Kiwanis Club in Bellflower, CA. He was very active in the Rotary International Youth club.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Jacob and Joan Van De Hoef of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Judith Bloor and David Brandt of Louisville; two grandchildren, Christopher and Megan Van De Hoef; a brother and his wife, William J. and Carol Van De Hoef of Sheldon; and a niece, Greta Jean Van De Hoef.
