ALICE DE BOER
Born September 21, l908; Hull, Iowa
Passed Away August 17,2001; Orange City, Iowa at the age of 92 years, l0 months and 26 days.
Funeral Service held Tuesday: August 21, 2001; l0:00a.m., Trinity Reformed Church, Orange City, Iowa.
Casket Bearers- Matthew Bradley, Robert De Young, Audley Dolphin, Jay Solsma, Arlan Van Grouw,and Edward Van Hal.
Interment Newkirk Cemetery, Hospers, Iowa
Alice was the ninth child and youngest daughter of Kornelius and Sipkje "Susie" (Bylsma) Nettinga. She was raised on the family farm near Perkins and attended Lincoln Township country school #7. Later she worked at Dykstra's Bakery and Starrett's Dry Goods in Hull.
Alice was united in marriage to Edward De Boer on
January 1, l931, at Hull. To this loving union, five children were born. Cornelia, David, Alma, Marjorie, and Vera. Alice and Edward farmed north of Newkirk for forty years, retiring to Orange City in l971. Edward passed away March 28, l985, in a Sioux City hospital.
In January of l996, Alice became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In October of l997, she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Alice was a homemaker, active in church women's groups and liked to travel. She was currently a member of the Trinity Reformed Church and formerly a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church. She enjoyed reading, tatting and crocheting.
In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her son, David, in l965; daughter, Cornelia Van Hal, in l995; two brothers, Gerrit and Cathrenus Nettinga; and six sisters, Agnes De Groot, Dena, Catherine and Susan Nettinga, Jennie Warntjes and Julia Harmelink.
Left to cherish memories are three daughters and their husbands, Alma and Rodney Langstraat of Newkirk; Marjorie and Kenneth Giese of Toledo, Ohio; and Vera and Norbert Bradley of Lenox, Iowa; son-in-law, Chris Van Hal of Valley City, North Dakota; daughter-in-law and her husband, Adeline and Audley Dolphin of Hospers; three grandsons, Edward Van Hal, Robert De Young and Matthew Bradley; five grandaughters, Gail Van Grouw, Gina Pitsenberger, Amy Solsma, Rachel De Young and Sarah Bradley; and six great-grandchildren, Janet, Troy, Kent and Logan Pitsenberger, and Blake and Claire Solsma.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Reformed Church or Northwestern College in Orange City.
