Yates Center, KS--Veryl E. Wassenaar, 48, Yates Center, KS, formerly of Sheldon, died Friday, June l8 at his home following a courageious battle with cancer.
Services were Tuesday, June 22, at United Methodist Church in Yates Center, KS.Burial was at Yates Center Cemetery, under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
Veryl Wassenaar, son of Donald Wayne and Alyda Helen (Kraayenbrink) Wassenaar, was born Oct. 6, l955, in Orange City..
He spent his childhood in Sheldon, graduating from Sheldon High School in l974. He then worked in construction.
He married Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Teasdale on Jan. 21, l978, in Sheldon. They moved to Yates Center, KS, in l980 and he went to work in the oil fields.
He then worked for the Woodson County Road and Bridge Department before beginning employment as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Yates Center Street Department. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Yates Center, a member of Gilead Lodge No. 144, A.F. & A.M. in Yates Center, and the Mirza Shrine in Pittsburg, KS. He also enjoyed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was an avid bow hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Wassenaar of Yates Center, KS; two daughters, Michelle Wassenaar and her friend Jarrod McVey of Pittsburg, KS and Amy Wassenaar at home in Yates Center; his parents, Donald and Alyda Wassenaar of Sheldon; brothers and sisters, Alan and Nancy Wassenaar of Doon, Diane and Dick Burns of Archer, Daryl and Marcia Wassenaar of Sheldon, Barbara and Glen Vanden Hull of Archer, and Sheila and Mike Weier of Linn Grove; his parents-in-law, the Rev. Cal and Gladys Teasdale of Fort Dodge; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom Teasdale of Fort Myers, Fl., Roxanne and John Gavan of Drumheller, Alberta, Canada and Kathy and Chris Zenner of Alta Vista.
