NICK WASSENAAR, 59, Dies at Holland, Michigan
MANY YEARS A RESIDENT OF SIOUX CENTER
Nick Wassenaar, for many years a resident and business man of Sioux Center, died Sunday night at his home in Holland, Michigan. He had been ailing for sometime but his relatives here did not know that he was seriously ill until they received word last Friday that he was not expected to live very long. On Sunday night he died of ulcers of the stomach. He was too weak to undergo an operation.
Mr. Wassenaar was born in Chicago in the early l870's and came to Sioux County with his parents in l875. Here he grew to manhood, when he was in his twenties he started working for the Schoeneman Bros. Lumber Co. For many years he managed their yard here in Sioux Center. For a short time he was in the general merchandise business here. He and his family moved to Holland, Mich. in l9l7.
In l895 Mr. Wassenaar married Miss Hattie Schoep, a sister of P.J. Schoep. Six children were born to this union, all of whom with their mother are still living.
