Virgil R. Peterson, 88, of Hawarden died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Funeral Service was Monday at the First Bapist Church in Hawarden with Pastor Stuart Schreur and Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements. Virgil R. Peterson was born Sept 11, 1912 in Union Co. SD, to Edward and Mary Jacobson Peterson. He married Cronelia Otten Dec 28, 1941 in Hawarden. They farmed in the Hawarden and Alcester area until they retired in 1976 and moved to Hawarden. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. Survivors include his wife, Cornelia; three sons, Dr. Edward R. of Mr. Pleasant IA, Lloyd of Minneapolis MN, and Dirk of Alcester; daughther Rosalind McInnis of Hawarden; brother, Myron Peterson of Hawarden; five grand and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granson Matthew R. Peterson.
