Jake Grevengoed, 91, of Rock Valley died Monday, May 26, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Paul Bakker officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Grevengoed was born January 10, 1912, in Sioux County, son of Dick and Carrie (Vande Griend) Grevengoed. In his early years he help out on the family farm and attended country school. He married Alice Van Otterloo on January 10, 1935, on the Van Otterloo homestead near Rock Valley. They farmed southwest of Rock Valley until their retirement in 1974. They moved into Rock Valley, but he continued to return to the farm to assist his son Jay with day-to-day chores. His wife died November 16, 2002.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved farming with his family.
Survivors include his son and his wife, Jay and LeAnn Grevengoed of Rock Valley; two daughters and their husbands, Ruth and Les Dorhout of Ireton and Althea and Rod Brunsting of Grand Rapids, Michigan; on son-in-law and his wife, Don and Lois Postma of Ireton, one brother-in-law, Marinus De Ruyter of Worthington, Minnesota, two sisters-in-laws, Margaret Grevengoed of Paw Paw, Illinois, and Winnie Grevengoed of Hull; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Postma; two grandchildren; two brothers, Gerrit and Henry Grevengoed; one sister Helen De Ruyter, two stepbrothers, Floris and Ed Vande Stoep, and one stepsister, Kate Peters.
