CHRIS WESTERGARD
Chris Westergard, 84, former Ireton mayor died Sunday morning at his residence.
Services were at l0 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Sieveking officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
A prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dow Funeral home.
Mr. Westergard was born Aug. 27, l892 near Hawarden. He married Anna Heuer Feb. l4, l9l7, in Eagle Township. He farmed in the Ireton area for 30 years until retiring in June l947 when he moved into Ireton.
Mr. Westergard was mayor of Ireton for three years. He was director of the Security Savings Bank for a number of years and a board member of the Ireton Rural Telephone Co. and served on the building committee of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mildred) Johnson and Mrs. Lloyd (Lillian) Liston, both of Ireton, Mrs. Marion (Viola) Jones of Chester, S.D., and Mrs. Daryl (Wilma) Liston of Welcome, Minn.; three sons, Fred of Ireton, Jesse of Stockton, Calif., and Albert of Albany, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and l7 great-grandchildren.
