William (Bill) Uittenbogaard was born September 27, 1917 in rural Hospers, Iowa to Nick and Grace (Oldenkamp) Uittenbogaard. He attended rural schools in Sioux County.
He entered the U. S. Army in January of 1942, serving in Hawaii, Australia and New Gumea with the 24th Infantry Division. He was wounded on May 15, 1944 in New Guinea and received the Purple Heart. Bill was discharged September 18, 1945.
On December 27, 1944 he was united in marriage to Sarah Van Aalsburg at Sheldon, Iowa. Bill was a carpenter for several years after his discharge from the military. They farmed in Sioux County for 3 years and farmed another 3 years at Round Lake, MN. They moved to Sioux Valley, MN where they farmed until 1979, retiring to Lake Park.
Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Park and a 50 year member of the American Legion at Sioux Valley and the Disabled American Veterans. He also liked to fish and hunt and in later years, reading
He died April 25 at Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah; daughters, Sharon Uittenbogaard of Sheldon, Marcia (Vern) Hanson, Mankato, MN and Joan (David) Kinrade, Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Jodi Schema, Gina Jaeger, Eric Hanson, Emily Kinrade and Rachel Kinrade; sister, Arlene Kramer, Hospers, IA and great-granddaughter, Katlyn Jo Jaeger.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Tena Kroon, Grace Langstraat and Margaret Smit.

Lake Park, Iowa--William "Bill" Uittenbogaard, 85, Lake Park, died Friday, April 25, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Services were Tuesday, April 29, at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, with the Rev. Donna Gray officiating. Burial was at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park.
