Verga Jean was the daughter of Dick and Winifred (Dykstra) De Jongh. She was raised at Hull, where she graduated from the public high school. For a short time, she was employed as a telephone operator.
On December 1, 1950, she married Morris Cornelius Nettinga in Hull. They lived in Oklahoma when he was in the military service. Most of their married life, they farmed at Hull, where she was also a homemaker. In the fall of 1989, they moved into Hull. Mr. Nettinga passed away on October 15, 1998, in Hull, after more than 47 years of marriage.
Mrs. Nettinga was a member of the American Reformed Church, where she participated in the women’s activities in earlier years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She also liked paper snipping and music. Recently, she was working on her family genealogy.
Survivors include her four daughters, Deanna and her husband, Dennis Lammers, of Alton; Sandra Smit of Newton; Karen and her husband, Greg Schmitt, of Cumberland; and Jan and her husband, Larry Brown, of Hull; three sons, Mark Nettinga of Reelsville, Indiana; Merrill Nettinga and his wife, Marlys, of Hull; and Myron Nettinga and his wife, Sarah, of Los Angeles, California; fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna and her husband, John Hime of San Antonio, Texas; Lorraine Bos of Prairie Home, Missouri; and Collen and her husband, Virgil Vande Brake of Sheldon; a sister-in-law, Muriel De Jongh of Springfield, Missouri; Morris’s sister and brother, Shirley Sybesma of Sioux Center; and Orville Nettinga of Hull; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Roger Smit; a grandson, Michael Brown; a brother, Marlo De Jongh; and a brother-in-law, Gerrit Bos.
