Arrangements: Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home; Hull, IowaKeneth Roy was born near Perkins Corner the son of Peter J. and Agnes (Nettinga) De Groot. He was raised on a farm northeast of Hull. He
attended the Hull Public School, Iowa State University and Northwestern College.
On June 1, 1950, he married Clarretta Jane Risseeuw at Hull. They fanned at Boyden Melvin and Doon In 1978 they moved into Doon. From 1978 to 1992, "Ken" served seven terms as a state legislator in the Iowa House of Representatives. He retired due to ill health and passed away at his home after experiencing cancer for twenty months.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Doon, where he had served as a teacher, deacon, elder, and lay preacher. He also served on the board of directors of many local, state, church, community, and government organizations
Survivors include his wife Clarretta; four children, the Rev. Perry De Groot and his wife, Joyce of Spencer and their children, Rebecca, Rachel, Sara, and Susan; Wesley De Groot and his wife, Hester, of Doon and their children, Bruce, Jill, Mark, Philip, Wade and Matthew; Nyla and her husband, John T. Zeilstra, of Mendon, Missouri, and their children Stephanie, Tom, and Shelly; and Kendall De Groot and his wife, Kay, of Doon, and their children Kellie, Dustin, Derek and Drew, and mother, Agnes De Groot, of Valley Manor in Rock Valley; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Sylvia) Gaalswyk of Lakewood California; Donald De Groot of Hull; Paul De Groot of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. Marvin (Judie) Foreman of Lakewood California; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister. Memorials are being directed to the Gideons.
