Mrs. Chris Burton. 83, Hawarden, died
Sunday at a nursing home there after a long
illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday
at 1:30 p.m. at the Dow funeral home with
Dr. G. S. Bruland. Methodist pastor,
officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill
cemetery.

She was born Dec. 17, 1885, in Owen
Sound. Ont. Canada and came to
Hawarden with her parents in 1890. The
former Essie Edmunds, she was married
April 15, 1906. at Hawarden. Her husband
died May 5, 1935.

She was active in many organizations,
including the Christian Science church,
Boston; Loyal chapter 204. Order of
Eastern Star, and a charter member of the
Progressive club, Hawarden.

Survivors are a son. Edmund; a sister.
Mrs. Florence Pharr, and a brother, Milton
Edmunds, all of Hawarden; two
grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.

Essie Burton Rites Held Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Chris (Essie) Burton, 83, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Dow Funeral Chapel with Dr. G. S. Bruland officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery. Mrs. Burton died Sunday (February 16, 1969) at a nursing home.

Mrs. Hal Shoemaker was organist, and Mrs. Ralph Gregg sang “In the Garden” and “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”. Casket bearers were George Wood, Dr. B. G. Gerdes, Arthur Swanson, Guy Hodgson, Henry Visser, and L. R. Carsten.

Mrs. Burton was born December 17, 1885, at Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. She came to Hawarden with her parents in 1890. The former Essie Edmunds, she married Chris Burton April 15, 1906, in Hawarden. He died May 5, 1935.

She was a member of the Christian Science church of Boston, a member of the Loyal Chapter 204, Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Progressive Club.

Survivors include a son, Edmund of Hawarden; a sister, Mrs. Florence Pharr of Hawarden, a brother, Milton Edmunds of Hawarden, two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
