Obituary: Rock Valley, IA – Albert Bakker, 86, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Netherlands Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. Bazen will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Albert Bakker was born January 30, 1923 to Gerrit and Fannie (De Leeuw) Bakker near Hull, IA.. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Albert was united in marriage to Alice Vande Stouwe on May 7, 1947 in Fairview, SD. Together they farmed near Rock Rapids, IA, Fairview, SD and Hull, IA before retiring in 1990. Albert was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Church where he taught Sunday school and served as an Elder for many years.

Albert is survived by his wife, Alice; 2 brothers: Bernard (Evelyn) Bakker of Sioux Center, IA and John (Marie) Bakker of Rock Valley, IA; 3 sisters: Dena Luttikhuizen of Wyoming, MI, Jennie DeKam and Angeline (Gilbert) Hoogendoorn all of Rock Valley, IA; 2 brothers-in-law: Gerrit (Lois) Vande Stouwe of Rock Valley, IA and Clarence (Faye) Vande Stouwe of Apple Valley, CA; 3 sisters-in-law: Leola Bakker, Margaret Vande Stouwe and Gertrude Vande Stouwe all of Rock Valley, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Bakker; 4 brothers-in-law: Martin Luttikhuizen, Clarence DeKam, Jake Vande Stouwe and William Vande Stouwe.
