DICK HAARSMA

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon in the American Reformed Church for Dick Haarsma, 78, who passed away on Thursday morning in the local hospital following a stroke he suffered 10 days ago. Burial was made in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home. The Rev. Alvin Hook, pastor of the American church officiated.

Mr. Haarsma was born on December 2, 1887 and came to the United States with his parents (next line out of order...) (He was united in marriage with) Dora Smits on February 4, 1916.

Surviving are the widow and 5 children, Johanna (Mrs. Robert De Haan) of Orange City; Ruth (Mrs. John Schaap) of Hayward, Calif.; Dorothy (Mrs. Wilbur Reinders) of Des Moines; Howard Haarsma of Oakland, Calif.; and Raymond Haarsma of Holland, Minn.; and 1 sister, Mrs. Harry Heemstra of Monroe, S. D. There are 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Rites Held Saturday for Dick Haarsma, 78

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, at the American Reformed church for Dick Haarsma, 78, of Orange City, with Rev. A. Hook Officiating.

Pallbearers were Kent De Haan, Keith De Haan, Jerald Pingel, Robert Pingel, Ray Van Pelt and Ray Wielenga.

Mr. Haarsma was born December 2, 1887 in the Netherlands and at the age of five migrated to Sioux County, Iowa with his parents. He passed away in the Orange City Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Haarsma was united in marriage February 4, 1916 to Dora Smits at Maurice, Iowa. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last February.

Survivors are the widow and five children, Mrs. Bob (Jo) De Haan of Orange City, Mrs. John (Ruth) Schaap of Hayward, Calif., Mrs. Wilbur (Dorothy) Reinders of Des Moines, Iowa, Howard of Oakland, Calif., and Raymond of Holland, Minnesota. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Harry Heemstra of Monroe, South Dakota.

Burial was made in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the American Ref. church for Dick Haarsma, 78, who passed away Thursday morning in the local hospital following a stroke suffered 10 days earlier. The Rev. Alvin Hook officiated, with interment at Westlawn cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Mr. Haarsma was born Dec. 2, 1887, in The Netherlands and came to the U. S. at the age of five years with his parents. He married Miss Dora Smits Feb. 4, 1916. Surviving are the widow and five children:

Johanna, Mrs. Robert De Haan, Orange City; Ruth, Mrs. John Schaap, Hayward, Calif.; Dorothy, Mrs. Wilbur Reinders, Des Moines; Howard, Oakland, Calif., and Raymond, Holland, Mich. (error--Minn.) Also one sister, Mrs. Harry Heemstra, Monroe, S. D., 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
