Nellie Scholten

Nellie Scholten, 88, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, December 6, 1989, in Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 in First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Norman Van Heukelom and the Rev. Raymond Deuekas officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Port Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Scholten, the former Nellie Olivier, was born Aug. 26, 1901, in Hull. She married Albert Scholten Jan. 20, 1921, in Hull. The couple lived in the Hull area from 1921 until 1946 when they moved to Rock Valley. She moved to Valley Manor Nursing Home in November 1989.

Mrs. Scholten was a member of Martha Circle of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Ben (Marlys) Groeneweg of Rock Valley and Mrs. William (Ila) Dirksen of Ripon, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Violet Scholten of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Asa Olivier of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Harsma of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Mrs. Bert (Wilma) Duits of Sioux Center; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two sons, John A. and Faner; two grandsons, Argene Scholten and Billie Dirksen; son-in-law, Clayton Schouten; daughter-in-law, Pauline Scholten; two brothers, Arend and Arie.
