From The Sioux County Capital, Orange City, Iowa, June 13, 1946:

PIONEER MOTHER PASSES ON

Mrs. Fannie Van Wechel, 92, died Monday evening at 10:45 after being bedridden for three weeks with a broken hip. The funeral services will be Friday, June 14, in the home at 1:30 and in the American Reformed Church at 2 p.m. Rev. Leroy Nattress and Rev. H. Colbrander will officiate. Van Etten's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Van Wechel, nee Fannie Mieras, was born at Wymaldum, Zeeland, The Netherlands. As an infant of seven weeks she came to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mieras. For a time the family lived near Milwaukee, Wis., and later moved to Greenleafton, Minn. Then as one of the first settlers she came to Sioux County.

In the fall of 1880, she was united in marriage to Arend Van Wechel, who preceeded her in death in 1914. Six children were born to this union, three of whom survive their mother, namely, Minnie (Mrs. John Workhoven), Anna (Mrs. C. Neal Dykstra) and Arend, all of Orange City. Also surviving are two step-children, Allen Van Wechel and Mrs. Henry Luchtenburg. Those who have passed on were Mary Esther, Nellie May, and Abbie Ruth (Mrs. Henry Reimers) of Marcus.
