From the Thursday, March 4, 1915 Hawarden Independent:
Miss Fern Vander Hamm and Mr. John R. Johnson were united in marriage Wednesday evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vander Hamm, Rev. Nuoffer performing the ceremony. A number of near relatives were present, when promptly at 7:30 p.m., Bertha Vander Hamm, a sister of the bride, began playing Lohengrin's wedding march to the strains of which the young couple marched into the parlor where they made the vows which united their lives. Following the congratulations a splendid three-course wedding supper was served. The contracting parties are among our best known and most highly respected young people and they have the best wishes of the entire community for a long and happy life together.
