Herman Addink was born "Harmen" on April 17, 1881 at Sioux Center, Iowa. His parents were Hendrik William Addink and Gerritje Ketelary. Their story is given separately in this book. He married "Jane" Jannetje Vant Hul on June 21, 1903 in Hull, Iowa. Jane was born August 13, 1883 at Alton, Iowa. Her parents were Jan Vant Hul and Aaltje Vlym. In the Alton Reformed Church records the last name is spelled Vander Hul.
After their marriage Herman and Jane farmed a few years at Davis, South Dakota. They came back to the Sioux Center area and farmed three miles south and three miles west of the Muilenberg place until they retired and moved to Sioux Center. They were members of Central Reformed Church.
The Addinks were a fun loving couple who loved to go fishing. They fished many hours in the creek at what is now Sandy Hollow. Mrs. Addink found herself in quite a humorous situation now and then. Once while fishing she cast out her line and it promptly back lashed and the hook caught her hair. She loved to fish even late in life, one day her daughter "Toots" Zylstra had set out all her mother's fishing gear at the end of the driveway to be picked up along with Mrs. Addink who was to be taken out fishing. Next thing they knew the fishing gear was gone, the Salvation Army truck had picked it up.
The Addinks had six children in all, they were as follows. Henry who died at the age of twenty-six year, Gertrude who died at the age of twelve years and an infant that died.
John H. Addink was born in 1905 and he married Gertrude Riepema. They had three children: Herman, Marorie (Mrs. Marvin Schut) and Ruth (Mrs. Jerry Kinaman).
Alice Addink was born in 1913 and she married Joe De Vos. They had six children: Jack, Herm, Marvin, Jane Eva (Mrs. Cornie Den Ouden), Henrietta (Mrs. Jim Jellema) and Nelva Ter Haar of Sioux Center.
Gertrude Addink was born in 1919 and she married Fred Zylstra. They have two sons; Doug Zylstra of Loveland, Colorado and Ron Zylstra of Inwood, Iowa.
