This story was taken from page 445 of the Ireton Centennial Book (1882-1982). The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pereboom and family lived about five miles SE of Ireton in early 1880’s. They came from Nokomis, Il. Five sons and two daughters came about the same time, some with families. Three sons and families remained in Illinois.
In later years Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pereboom retired to Ireton, living one block east of the Lutheran Church. Two of the sons were carpenters who built a number of houses in Ireton and Struble, Ia. as well as a number of farm buildings. Later Wm. Jr. managed the Moore Lumber Co. at Struble before moving to Idaho. Andrew moved to S.D. and continued to work there and returned to do building work when Craig was being started.
Three sons and one daughter and families moved on to S.D. as farmers. One daughter and husband retired in LeMars. Wm. Pereboom one of the carpenter’s sons, built the first small St. Paul’s Lutheran Church building in Ireton, at present located across the street north from the present brick building. It was built about 1886 and is occupied by Alice Den Ouden.
John, one of the three sons and his family that remained in Ilinois in the 1880’s came to Iowa in 1893.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pereboom and family located NW of Ireton about ten miles. They retired and moved into Ireton in 1917. John Pereboom died in 1927 and Mrs. Pereboom in 1947. The oldest daughter, Mary, died in 1950. Three sons and a daughter moved to Oklahoma. Garrett of Blackwell, Ok. survives. A son and a daughter moved to Calif. Both are deceased. Three stayed in Iowa. Heye moved to LeMars and is deceased. Margaret, youngest daughter lives in Des Moines. Willem ‘William’ Pereboom born 27 Oct 1829 Netherlands died 23 Feb 1812 Ireton IA. His Netherlands birth record states he was born 27 Oct 1829 at Oostburg, Middleburg, Zeeland, Netherlands to Jan Pereboom and Dorothea Jacoba van Heist . He married Trientje Eckhoff 1854 in Missouri.
Trientje Eckhoff was born Jan 1835 Holland Ostfriesland Hanover Germany and died Jan 10, 1910 Ireton IA. She was the daughter of Bruno Eckhoff and Catherinia Wilhelmina. She was the mother of the following children:

Olive MO, they moved to Morrisonville IL, then 1894 moved to Eagle Township Sioux county IA. Eleven children were born to them, ten survived. William of Lahoma, Okla., H. W. and Miss Mary Pereboom of Ireton; Dora Johnson of Enid, Okla.; Garret of Hawarden; Herman of Enid, Okla.; Anna Vosberg of Long Beach, Calif,; Margaret Edwards of Sioux City; Theodore of Chicago; and Andrew of Ireton.

4. William Pereboom born 15 Feb 1864 Illinois died 11 Mar 1920 Twin Falls ID He married Minnie M. Hagge 1871-1927 They had children – Clarence Alfred Pereboom 1895-1987, Andrew Clinton Pereboom 1896-1982, Minnie Margaret Pereboom 1900-1961 and Clara Eldona Pereboom 1902-1979.
5. Andrew Pereboom born Sep 6,1866 Mt. Olive IL died 19 May 1935 Burke, Gregory SD. He married Foskea J. Brakenhoff 1868-1939. Children : Katherine Pereboom 1889-1927, William Pereboom 1891-1953, Elsie Pereboom 1892-1972, Clara Pereboom 1894-1988, Eva Pereboom 1897-1977, Bertha Pereboom 1898-1952, Theresa Pereboom 1900-1984, George Pereboom 1901-1959, Harley Pereboom 1904-1958.
6. Henry Jacobs Pereboom born Feb 28,1868 Mt. Olive IL died Dec 1, 1921 Nokomis IL. Wife Heilga Maria Buechsenschuetz 1869-1949. Rose Pereboom 1895-1984, Mathilda Pereboom 1898-1975, Cordia Pereboom 1902-1987.
7. ‘Fred’ Martin Friedrich Pereboom born 23 Nov 1872 Nokomis IL died 12 Mar 1934 Watertown SD. He married Emma Hines 1873-1949. Their children: Russel Pereboom 1898-1919, Birdie Pereboom 1899-1992, Cecil Pereboom 1903-1981.
8. ‘Garrett’ Gerhard Rippke Pereboom born 1870 Mt. Olive IL died 1 Nov 1950 Springfield IL Wife Cordelia Miller 1876-1955. Their children : Frank Pereboom 1903-1991, Ralph Pereboom 1905-1906, and Helen Pereboom 1911-1997.
9. Theodore C. Pereboom born 4 Nov 1879 Nokomis IL died 24 Apr 1946 Chester SD. Wife Grace Namminga 1878-1968. Children : Martha Guizina Pereboom Schutt 1908-1987 and Viola Pereboom Van Hoepen 1920-2019.

Source: Alton Democrat issue of 2 March 1912, Ireton column. Wm. Pereboom passed away at the home of his son in Struble the 23d of February, from weakness and debility incident to old age. Mr. Pereboom was born in Holland in 1827 and at the time of his death was 82 years, 3 months and 27 days old. He with his family emigrated to America a great many years ago and settled on a farm south of town and some twelve years ago left the farm, settling in Ireton, where he lived ten years or until the death of his wife some two years ago. After her death he broke up housekeeping and has since lived with his children. He is survived by several sons and two daughters. The funeral was held Monday from the German Lutheran church and the services were conducted by Rev. Grandma Pereboom died at her home in Ireton January eighth from lung fever and heart failure at the age of near seventy five years. She was born at Hollen Ostfriesland Germany and came to the United States in 1853. She had been a resident of Sioux county since 1893. She was married to William Pereboon in St. Louis Missouri January eighth 1854 and twelve children were born to them—nine surviving to mourn with the husband and father who is near eighty. They are: John of Hawarden; William of Struble; Andrew of Lucas, South Dakota; Henry of Struble; Gerrit of Springfield, Illinois; Fred of Hazel, South Dakota; Theodore of Ireton; Mrs. Renken of Ireton. Fifty grandchildren and three great grandchildren also trace their lineage to this patriarchal couple.
Six years ago exactly on the day of her death Mr. and Mrs. Pereboom celebrated their golden wedding. Of the fifty-six years of their wedded life, they spent five at St. Louis, twelve at Mount Olive, Illinois, twenty-two at Nokomis Illinois, thirteen on their farm near Ireton and four in Ireton. Mrs. Pereboom was a member of the Lutheran church and a woman much respected. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. Mrs. William Pereboom passed away last Saturday afternoon at her home in Ireton from heart failure. She was seventy-five years of age, has been in critical condition for some time, and death was not unexpected. She was an old resident of Reading township and highly respected by all who knew her.
Trientje (Eckhoff) Pereboom leaves an aged husband, seven sons, two daughters, fifty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She and her husband had been married fifty-six years and one day at the time of her death. They celebrated their golden wedding six years ago at which all of their children and their families were present.
The funeral was held at the German Lutheran Church at noon Wednesday and was one of the most largely attended that was ever held in Ireton. Reverend Schwenk, pastor of the church, conducted the services.
