OBITUARY of Laurenz Langenhorst 1830-1910

Laurenz Langenhorst was born in Hanover Germany in 1830 and died at Hospers Iowa April sixth 1910--being in his eightieth year at the time of his demise. His death was caused by a complication of heart and liver trouble.
He left Germany for the United States in 1865--settling in Eastern Iowa. He resided there as a tiller of the soil until in the spring of 1894 he retired from the farm and removed to Hospers to enjoy the fruits of long years of labor. Since that time he has been a resident of Hospers.
The subject of this sketch was twice married. In 1866 he married Miss Marie Adelade Kottee but fifteen years later death parted them. To this union six children were born of whom two are dead. The living in order of their birth are Dr. F. J. Langenhorst of Ashton, Mrs. Henry Claseman of Long Prairie, Minnesota, Mrs. F. W. Ricker of Granville and Mrs. Joseph Heying of Tripp county, South Dakota.
In 1882 Mr. Langenhorst was wedded to Louise Thy. Four children blessed this second marriage--of whom three are living. The surviving children of this marriage are Clem Langenhorst of Hospers, Mrs. Joseph Claseman of Long Prairie, Minnesota and Miss Angie Langanhorst at home. His widow is also left to mourn his loss. The children--with the exception of the doctor--were all at his bedside at the death; the doctor was on his way.
Mr. Langenhorst made many friends during his sixteen years residence in Hospers and these--in addition to the bereaved wife and children--are left to mourn one who had proven himself a man who lived as God wishes us all to live. Funeral services will be conducted from the Catholic church at Hospers at ten o'clock Saturday morning.
