Frisch, Johanna Mrs. John Forrett 1836-1908
Alton Democrat of Nov 21, 1908
Mrs. Johanna Forette died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Nic Soheckel in Alton Thursday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock from the infirmities of age from which she had been confined to her bed for the past two and a half weeks. Deceased was Johanna Frisch and was born at Reokingeu Luxemburg Europe January sixth 1836. She came to America in 1845 and settled with her folks at St, Donatus Jackson county Iowa. She was married there to John Forette on the twenty first day of October 1855. For three years they made their home at Galena Illinois and for thirty years called Springbrook Iowa their home. It was here that the husband died on the seventeenth of February 1881. Ten children were born to them of whom four died in infancy and one was drowned a year ago last June in the Mississippi river. This latter catastrophe coming upon Mrs. Forette in her old age broke her heart and she had not had a well day since. During the thirty years that she called Springbrook her home she spent various short periods with her daughter in Alton. About eight and a half years ago she came here and stayed with Mrs- Soheckel for four and a half years and was well known to Alton people. In the Springbrook community she was noted as a woman who was ever ready to lend her aid in times of sickness or distress and had she saved herself more and others less she might have added years to her life. The living children in the order of their ages are Mrs. Scheckel of Alton, Jacob Forette of Adrian Minnesota, Mrs, Mike Entringer of Springbrook, Will Forette of Dubuque and Mrs. William Portz of Springbrook. She leaves also twenty eight grandchildren and one great grandchild—the little son of John Soheckel of Alton. The children— with the exception of Mrs. Portz— and a number of the grandchildren are now here. The funeral is to be held Monday at nine o'clock and will be the first from St. Marys new church.Alton Democrat November 28, 1908
The funeral of Mrs. Forrette whose death was mentioned in last week's DEMOCRAT was held Monday of this week in Alton. Despite the bad weather a large crowd was in attendance. It may be mentioned here that nearly a month before her death Mrs. Forrette said to her daughter that she would be the first one to be buried from St. Mary's new Catholic church—and so it was. It may also be mentioned that at St. Donatus Iowa fifty three years ago deceased was of the first couple married in the new church which had at that time just been completed there. Among those at the funeral from a distance besides the children who were mentioned last week—were Mrs. Peter Homan of Remsen, John Eulberg and Henry Peters of Granville, Peter Arens of Remsen, Miss Viola Forrette of Sioux City, Mrs, Herbert Frost of Ashton, Nic Forrette of Granville, Messrs and Mesdames Peter Bruecher of Remsan, N. Scheckel of Dubuque, Dominick Berg and Peter Galles of Granville and John Wolf of Remsen.
