J. C. Garmong, one of our worthy and highly esteemed citizens, died of congestion of the lungs last Tuesday evening at his residence in Shelby. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. D. C. Franklin, preaching an impressive sermon on this occasion, after which a large concourse of people followed the remains to their last resting place in the Shelby cemetery. The deceased was born in Virginia, in 1835, moved to Ohio, and from thence to Shelby, Iowa, in 1874. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn the loss of a loving husband and a kind and indulgent father. He was a man of more than average business ability and intellectual worth, and by prudence and strict business habits, has amassed a competency for his family. His death is lamented by all who enjoyed the pleasure of his acquaintance.
