Mrs. H. C. Nichols died at her home in Shelby township, Friday, February 15, 1895. Funeral services were held on Saturday and the remains laid to rest in the Shelby cemetery, Mrs. Nichols was a member of the Methodist church and a woman of fine Christian character. Sarah Pratt was born in Athens county, Ohio, May 16, 1827, and was 67 years and 9 months old at time of death (Feb. 15, 1895). She was united in marriage with H. C. Nichols Sept. 12, 1850, and bore him eight children, three of which preceeded her and five survive her, two boys and three girls. She united with the M. E. church when about fifteen years old and endeavored to live a Christian life and was always kind and good.
