Employment: After completing her education, Marlene was employed by Variety Distributers, Harlan, IA, and later became the office manager there. After her marriage, they operated a farm northeast of Kimballton, IA where they grew row crops and raised livestock. Marlene always had a large vegetable garden and strawberry patch. They retired from farming in 2002 and Marlene then went to work at the Danish Inn in Elk Horn, IA, until retiring in 2004 due to health issues.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Red Hat Society; with Lyle, they enjoyed traveling around the country with their camper; was an animal lover and cared for many different animals; enjoyed puzzles, playing cards, polka dancing, reading books and babysitting her grandchildren.
