Funeral services: Friday, June 26, 2020; Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, IA; burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA

Survived by: Children, Dennis (spouse, Debbie) of DePere, WI, Douglas (spouse, Rita) of Fall Creek, WI, Rob (spouse, Dale) of Nashville, TN, and Blake (spouse, Linda) of Wake Forest, NC; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Roy Oscar and Anna Esther (nee Kline) Hibray; wife of 60 years, Donafae (deceased 2011)

Education: Attended country school near Allen, SD on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and graduated from Bennett County High School, Martin, SD; he then attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD for 2 years. After his naval service, he attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, and received a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Animal Science and Agronomy.

Religious affiliation: Long-time member, United Methodist Church, Harlan, IA; he served on many boards and committees

Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Navy, and was a Navy pilot during World War II; he served 16 months in the Pacific Theater, primarily in the Philippine Islands, flying PBY “Catalina” seaplanes and performing anti-submarine patrols and air-sea rescue missions. He later transferred to an Air Transport Squadron and flew C-47 Transports. Personnel, including USO troupes, and supplies were flown wherever needed, including Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Formosa, China, Japan, and many Pacific islands.

Marriage: Donafae Sindt; Sep. 17, 1950; First Christian Church, Ames, IA

Employment: With his military experience, he received a commercial pilot’s license for single and multi-engine land and seaplanes. He was employed by Iowa State University as a County Extension Director for 10 years; he was then employed as a District Salesman for Ralston-Purina Co., St. Louis, MO while residing in Humboldt, IA. He next moved to Fairmont, MN and Sun Prairie, WI as Area Sales Manager for International Multifoods of Minneapolis, MN, and served Wisconsin and Northern Illinois for 10 years. He came to Harlan, IA in 1974 as Manager of the Feed Division for Farm Service Co-op and worked in this capacity until he retired in 1989.

Hobbies/Interests: Active in the Harlan Golden K Kiwanis Club, and was a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
