Elk Horn World War I Veteran Died Yesterday

Service for Arnie Lange Will Be Held Sunday at Elk Horn Church

Arnie Lange, Clay township farmer and World War I veteran, died shortly after 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at St. Anthony's hospital, Carroll, where he had been a patient since last week.

Mr. Lange, who had suffered from asthma for several years, was operated on at the hospital the latter part of last week for gallstones. He failed to rally, growing steadily weaker until the end came yesterday.

Arnie Lange was born in Clay township, Shelby county on Jan. 27, 1895, and lived in the same township practically all his life.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Elk Horn Lutheran church and attended rural schools of the county.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War I; was assigned to an Infantry company and went to France with the A.E.F.

Soon after his discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage to Anna Jorgensen on Oct. 15, 1919, at Elk Horn.

They made their home on the Jorgensen farm, about two miles northeast of Elk Horn, for a few months. Following the death of Mrs. Lange's uncle, the couple took over the Jensen farm, a mile west and a mile north of Elk Horn, and had since resided there.

Mr. Lange was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran church and of the Elk Horn Post of the American Legion.

Surviving are his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Lange of Elk Horn; five brothers, Andrew C. and Ted of Elk Horn, Max R. of Audubon, Marinus of Atlantic and Elmer of California, and two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Hansen of Elk Horn and Mrs. Ben Wheatley of Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon.

Short services will be held at the home at 2 o'clock, and the main rites at the Elk Horn Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock.

Interment will be in the Elk Horn cemetery.
