Elenore Froyd Cochran

Elenore Froyd Cochran, 83, 2393 200th St., died at 11:05 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Open visitation will begin Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 that night. A memorial has been established to First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Cochran was born July 3, 1912, in Harlan, the third of 14 children of Swedish immigrant parents, Gustave and Emma Froyd. She grew up in Villisca and graduated from Villisca High School. She later received a teaching certificate from Parsons College. She served as secretary for the superintendent of schools in Villisca. On July 19, 1932, she married J. Richard Cochran at St. Joseph, Mo. They lived in Coin, Council Bluffs and Newton; Minneapolis; and Ripor??, Wis., until moving to Fairfield in 1975. She was a member of PEO for more than 50 years, the past 2? years in chapter MB. She had been active in the Fairfield Women's Club, Questers, the First Presbyterian Church and the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband; five children, Christine Kemp of Iowa City, Jo Johnson, Judy Ide and Sarah Cochran, all of Evanston, Ill., John of Akron, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lillian Day and Virginia Westerland, both of Villisca, Vivian Pyner of Coquille, Ore., Alice Ashen of Chicago, Marjory Finney of McLean, Va., Ardis Bryant of Crystal River, Fla.; two brothers, Russell Froyd of Osceola and Frank Froyd of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, John, Gustave Jr. and one in infancy; and a sister, Norma.
