Military service: Drafted into the U. S. Army in 1965; served during the Vietnam War as a medic; honorably discharged and awarded the Bronze Star with Valor

Employment: After his military service, he was a farmer for over 20 years; he then worked for G&R Grain Elevator in Portsmouth, IA and retired in 2012; had also previously been a member of the Panama Fire Department
Hobbies/Interests: woodworking, playing cards, visiting the casinos, watching old westerns and wrestling on TV; member, American Legion Post 601 in Panama, IA;
