Funeral services: Tuesday, March 25, 2014, Hockenberry Family Care, Atlantic, IA. Private family inurnment to be held at a later date.

Survived by: Special friend, Betty Mauk of Atlantic, IA; children, Kim (spouse, Tana) Wittrup of Pueblo, CO, Kristie (spouse, Terry) Frein of North Port, FL, Kyle (spouse, Debbie) Wittrup of Ankeny, IA, and Karla (spouse, Kevin) Sorensen of Corning, IA; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; other family and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Walter and Meta (nee Laursen) Wittrup; wife, Gerda Wittrup (deceased Feb. 24, 2005); brothers, Norman, Robert, Burton and Bruce

Education: attended the Elk Horn (IA) Community Schools and graduated high school, Class of 1942

Military service: enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in Europe during WWII. Upon his discharge, he returned to Elk Horn, IA.

Employment: worked for a short period as a lineman for REC in Harlan, IA. Lyle then worked at farming from 1955 to 1962. When he decided that farming was not for him, he moved his family to Atlantic, IA, and began working for the Atlantic Municipal Utilities in 1963; he remained there until his retirement in 1986. His love of working with stained glass allowed him to start his business, Stained Glass Creations, which he was able to work full time at after his retirement from AMU. Lyle also shared his craft with others through teaching classes with stained glass.

Hobbies/Interests: Was a Boy Scout leader and volunteer for many years. Lyle had a great memory loved to share the stories of his life with others. His most loved spending time with family.
