Donna Ewert of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan officiated. Additional memorial service: Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, IA. Burial of ashes was in the Richland Cemetery in Inwood, IA

Survived by: Daughter, Cathy Johnson of Harlan, IA; son, Timothy (spouse, Pam) Roos of Taylor, TX; brothers, LeRoy (spouse, Dorla) Roos of Virginia, MN, and Eddie Roos of Harlan, IA; sisters, Ethel (spouse, Lyle) Hall of Stewartville, MN, Betty Hellickson of Preston, MN, and Ruby (spouse, Ken) Bushman of Roscoe, MN; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Ed and Esther (nee Hyink) Roos; wife of 56 years, Bert (deceased Oct. 2, 2005); sisters, Joyce Roos and Ethel Roos; one stillborn brother

Marriage: Bertha “Bert” Jenetta Ter Meer; February 14, 1949; Inwood, Iowa

Employment: After their marriage, the couple farmed in IA and MN. For many years, Don was a foster parent. He worked as a hired man for Edgar Jensen in Eyota, MN. He was then employed by Pioneer Hybrid in Johnston, IA, in March 1967, retiring in 1986. After he retired, Don and Bert moved to Bella Vista and Bentonville, AR. Don worked the craft fairs for Verne Patton while they lived there from 1988 to the end of 2001. They then moved to Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Don enjoyed working outside at the craft fairs, putting up lights, directing traffic, and whatever else that needed to be done. He enjoyed making wood crafts, having a garden, canning, mowing the lawn, playing cards, and completing word puzzles.
