Janice Mabel, daughter of Edward and Ruth (Burchfield) Dwinell, was born February 27, 1932, at Dexter, Dallas County, Iowa. She graduated from Greenfield High School and continued her education in business. Before her marriage, Janice worked for a time at the courthouse in Greenfield.

On July 5, 1957, Janice was united in marriage with Donald L. Jacobsen and the couple lived on and farmed his home farm in rural Atlantic. One son, Brian, was born to this union. Janice was the model of dedicated, hard-working farm wife and homemaker. She loved the farm life and everything it entailed. Janice also enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing, especially making quilts. She was a friend to everyone and was there for anyone who needed a helping hand, and as a result was loved by all who knew her. Janice also worked at Grahams Department Store in Atlantic, the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, and DeLongs in Atlantic through the years. She was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church and involved in the women’s circle, worship assistant and Keenager’s Group.

Following her husband’s death in 1993, Janice continued to live on the farm and took great pleasure in helping her son Brian with farm work. She resided at the Salem Lutheran Homes for about a month while recovering from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. On Monday, September 28, 2009, Janice died there suddenly at the age of 77 years, seven months and one day.

Preceeding Janice in death are her parents; husband Donald Jacobsen; sister-in-law Darlene Clayton; and nephew Mark Dwinell.

She is survived by her son Brian Jacobsen of rural Atlantic; brothers Ronald Dwinell of Greenfield and Harold Dwinell of Adel; sister-in-law Norma Rasmussen of Elk Horn; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
