Survived by: Wife of 46 years, Judy Rewerts of Defiance, IA; sons, Lance Rewerts of Ames, IA; Bruce Rewerts of Englewood, CO and Jay Rewerts of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Laramie and Benjamin; sisters, JoAnn Moore and Dorothy Krueger, both of Omaha, NE; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends

Education: attended St. Paul’s Grade and High School, Definance, IA; graduated, Class of 1962. He later attended Commercial Extension Business School.

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance; George was an active member at St. Peter’s Church, including having served as parish council member, and a member of the church choir and lead singer for 40 years.

Employment: George played six years professional baseball as a pitcher in the New York Yankees organization. He owned and operated The Defiance Lumber Company. He semi-retired in 2006 and continued living in Defiance.

Hobbies/Interests: George was a city council member for 12 years, and a volunteer fireman for 40 years, serving 4 terms as fire chief. George also coached little league baseball for 18 years as well as having coached the Defiance Basketball Town Team. He loved spending time on his boat, telling bad jokes and keeping things in working order around his and others homes.
