Mariann C. Muenchrath - Age 87

Mariann Catherine Muenchrath was born on May 1, 1925, to Lawerence and Lucy (Kenkel) Rauterkus in Earling, Iowa. She attended school in Dunlap, Iowa.

On January 9, 1946, Mariann was united in marriage to Silverius J. Muenchrath at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Seven children were gifted to this union: Ron, Tom, Connie, Mike, Pat, Mary, and Alice. They lived on their family farm north of Earling until they retired in 1975.

Mariann enjoyed quilting, needle pointing, crocheting, gardening and helping out on the farm. For many years Mariann kept a daily journal documenting the events in her life. She was the original scrap booker; collecting articles, cards and memorabilia and binding them into books. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to take them to Wednesday night Bingo. She also liked to spoil them by making her famous "ladyfingers". Mariann volunteered as a 4-H leader and CCD teacher. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Earling for forty-three years and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa.

Mariann died on her favorite holiday, Christmas, Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the age of eighty-seven years, seven months, and twenty four days. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Walt, Ivo, Larry and Marcus, and sisters: Magdalene, Lucille and Catherine.

She is survived by her children: Ron Muenchrath and his wife Virginia of Earling, Iowa, Tom Muenchrath and his wife Pat of Defiance, Iowa, Connie and her husband Bob Cupich of Omaha, Nebraska, Mike Muenchrath and his wife Sheila of Seward, Nebraska, Pat Bronfman of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Mary and her husband Gary Bruck of Wills Point, Texas, and Alice Bruck of Rochester, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; brother Jerome "Shorty" Rauterkus of Harlan, Iowa; sister Margaret and her husband Norbert of Omaha, Nebraska; other family members and friends.

Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with ConCelebrant Bishop Blase Cupich on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Mark Muenchrath, Tom Muenchrath, Jr., Joey Muenchrath, Troy Muenchrath, Jason Muenchrath, Jeff Muenchrath, Rob Cupich, Michael Cupich, and Tony Bruck. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.
