Mary and Arthur began a correspondence after he returned to Texas and after a short courtship the two were united in marriage on October 21, 1983 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage, they made their home in Lockhart, Texas.

In May of 2009, they then made their home in Harlan, Iowa and this has been their home since. Art died on May 17, 2012 at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan having attained the age of eighty-three years, three months and twenty-three days.
