Reba "Becky" Lund - Age 87

Reba Dale "Becky" Lund was born on December 8, 1924 in Boma, Tennessee. She was the daughter of E. Lovell and Ida (Julian) Rodgers and was one of seven children. She attended high school in Old Hickory, Tennessee when she first started waitressing.

Becky was working as a waitress when she met Harley Lund, an Air Force mechanic. The two connected and they were united in marriage on June 3, 1944 in Franklin, Kentucky. They were the parents of three children: Shirley, Denny and David. Following Harley’s discharge from the Air Force, the couple resided outside of Minden and Harley farmed.

After the family moved into Minden, Becky and Harley operated a cornsheller and then a gas station on the west end of town. They also owned and operated Duffy’s Tavern and Becky’s Kitchen from 1969 until 1979, when they retired.

Becky enjoyed feeding large crowds of people, both friends and family; she was very proud of her southern heritage and she was known to fill the tavern with her southern fried chicken. She loved fishing and going to the bowling alley in Minden and playing cards and cribbage with Harley. She was really into her family; her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to her.

Becky joined Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 2008 and this is where she died on Saturday, January 28, 2012 having attained the age of eighty-seven years, one month and twenty days. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harley Lund, and five of her siblings: Dorvis, Charles, Harold, Emily and Catherine.

She is survived by her children: Shirley and her husband Denny Kahler of Minden, Iowa, Denny Lund and his wife Debbie of Minden, and David Lund of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren: Tracey Fox, Todd Kahler, Brian Lund and Jamie Arbaugh; seven great grandchildren: Ally, Hannah, Peyton, and Sierra Fox, Stephanie and Debra Tuttle and Preslie Arbaugh; sister Doris Marie Franz of Mio, Michigan; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pastor Jon Hansen officiated the 10:30 am funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Interment was held at the Minden Cemetery in Minden, Iowa with Randy Lund, Terry Overgaard, Kevin Fox, Kevin Brich, Brian Lund and Todd Kahler serving as casket bearers.
